Ulrich Prahn's Star Trek Cardboard Models

Sadly, in January 1996 - suddenly and unexpected - Ulrich passed away in his sleep at the age of only 30. We all still miss Uli dearly, and there will always be a place in the thoughts and the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

This is the home page of the wonderful cardboard cut-out models by Ulrich Prahn.

Ulrich has built pre-designed cardboard models, mainly aircrafts, for many years before his affection for the Star Trek television series brought him to design models of his own.

There are four models available.

All of the models are free. You can happily give copies to friends and print out as many sheets as you like. You are, however, not allowed to make profit with these models! You must not sell the files or printouts of the sheets.

Each model comes with building instructions and one or more pictures in jpeg or gif format. The cut-out sheets are in Postscript.

Lately, there seem to be more and more people on the net who can't handle Postscript files at all. This is probably caused by the large amount of DOS users who connect to the Internet through commercial providers.

To help them get to their models, I decided to put additional packages with the cut-out sheets in GIF-format on this page. These packages contain the same sheets that are in the regular packages - nothing more. They are monochrome GIF files in 300dpi resolution, created with Ghostscript.

 -- Shuttlepod El-Baz

The El-Baz is a small sub-light shuttlepod, which was prominently featured in the tv show Star Trek - The Next Generation.

If you're a cardboard modelling novice, this is the perfect model to start with. If you can't manage to build this, please don't bother trying the other models.

Before you download the El-Baz model you should know that it's about 150 KB and that it's compressed with zip.

The zip archive with the cut-out sheets in GIF-format is about 159 KB.

 -- Shuttlecraft Magellan

The Magellan is a type 6 warp shuttle from the tv show Star Trek - The Next Generation.

This model has a significantly higher difficulty than the El-Baz. You should have at least some experience in building cardboard models for this one. (How about trying the El-Baz first?)

Before you download the Magellan model you should know that it's about 185 KB and that it's compressed with zip.

The zip archive with the cut-out sheets in GIF-format is about 215 KB.

 -- Romulan Scout Vessel

This is the model of a Romulan Scout Ship from the tv show Star Trek - The Next Generation. This type of vessel was first seen in the episode The Defector.

The is a bit tricky to build, you should have some experience. It has by far the highest level of difficulty of all the available models.

The package consists of four sheets (in Postscript), a jpeg picture of the vessel, a blueprint, and instructions how to build the model; it is about 280k. Click here to download the Romulan Scout Ship.

The zip archive with the cut-out sheets in GIF-format is about 365 KB.

 -- The Botany Bay

This is the model the Botany Bay, the sleeper ship of Khan Noonian Singh from the original Star Trek episode Space Seed.

The difficulty is a bit higher than that of the Magellan Shuttlecraft.

If someone has a nice picture of this ship in the style of the other pictures in this document, please let me know. I'm still looking for one to include in the package.

The package consists of just one sheet (in Postscript), a blueprint, and instructions how to build the model; it is about 126k. Click here to download the Botany Bay.

The zip archive with the cut-out sheets in GIF-format is about 92 KB.
